Description

You can volunteer with the Kent Association for the Blind (KAB) in a variety of different roles by filling out the online application form.

As a volunteer in KAB clubs and groups you can help to run the club, organise activities and help with transport for people to and from the club.

As a fundraising volunteer activities might include:

  • stewarding or showing people to their seats at special events
  • taking part in street and store collections
  • planning and running your own fundraising event for KAB
  • helping to arrange events; and running a KAB stall at craft fairs or your local fete.

As a befriending volunteer you could visit people in their homes, accompany them on outings, visits to friends or relatives, or attending appointments, and help people deal with correspondence and personal paperwork.

As a volunteer braillist you would be involved in producing or checking Braille text for our service users and helping out with our Transcription Service at Maidstone Sight Centre.

Drivers and escort volunteers could use their own cars to drive sight impaired people to KAB clubs, events and training or drive one of KAB's minibuses taking sight impaired people to KAB clubs, events and training sessions, leisure outings and occasional holidays.

Training can be provided.

As a public speaking volunteer you could give talks to community groups, schools or other local voluntary groups or you could give short talks as a sight impaired person, sharing experiences of the emotional and practical aspects affecting daily life.

You could also volunteer to read, or record Kent Talking News at Maidstone Sight Centre or help to transcribe information into different formats such as braille or audio.

This is by no means an exhaustive list of the volunteering opportunities available with the Kent Association for the Blind.
