The KMPT MIMHS service is for women with mental health difficulties who are considering pregnancy, are currently pregnant, or have given birth and the baby is under a year old.
Women must be registered with a Kent GP and should in the first instance seek advice from their midwife, health visitor or GP.
Support and treatment
Many women can be offered initial support and treatment in primary care. If more specialist support, advice, interventions or treatment is required, a referral to mental health services can be made.
The service is for women aged 18 or over, who are experiencing or are at significant risk of experiencing mental health problems of a severity or complexity to require specialist prenatal intervention.
The service also provides advice, liaison and training for other professionals.
Referrals
Referrals are made through the appropriate mental health team.
The patient will remain under the care of the referring team (such as a care co-ordinator or lead professional).
If you would like to discuss the appropriateness of a potential referral please contact the West Kent and Medway MIMHS by phoning 01622 722 321
