National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society (NASS)

NASS is the only UK registered charity dedicated to ankylosing spondylitis (AS). We provide support, advice and information to people with AS.

We are committed to keeping people as informed as possible about AS as we believe that people who understand their condition and how it should be managed will have the best possible outcome.

The NASS website contains information about exercise for AS along with access to clinical research papers and local news, branches and events.

Membership of NASS costs up to £20 per year and includes:

• ankylosing spondylitis (AS) news twice a year and our annual fundraising newsletter
• NASS Active
• access to the NASS Members' Forum
• free entry to you and one guest to our Members' Day event
• guides on claiming benefits such as PIP and ESAEnter raffles

NASS helpline

The National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society (NASS) Helpline is available on 0208 741 1515 between 9am and 12 noon Monday to Friday.

The Helpline is run by Sally and Amardeep. Sally is the best person to contact for medical and lifestyle questions, while Amardeep is the best person to chat to about state benefits and work.

Out of hours or if the line is busy you can leave a message on the answer phone and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

We get a very wide range of calls and when relevant information or detailed knowledge is not available, we will try and find good evidence-based information from other sources. We will then give you details of the best organisation to help you, perhaps with more in-depth knowledge and experience on a particular topic.

Callers need to be aware that we have no medical training and so we are not able to answer specific medical questions. In such circumstances we always refer callers to their rheumatology team or GP.

We can also approach NASS Medical Advisors for help with more complex issues.
