Description

The Richard Watts Charities provide Almshouses which build on the work of the original historic Poor Travellers House (founded by Watts in 1579) on Rochester High Street.

The current almshouses are available for those in need who are over 55 years of age, able to look after themselves and live in Rochester or urban Strood at the time of application.

The main almshouses are now the Watts Almshouses in Maidstone Road, Reeves House in Watts Avenue, St Catherine's at the top of Star Hill and Haywards House in Corporation Street.

In total Richard Watts Charities have 67 well-appointed self-contained flats for single people or couples.

Watts Almshouses has 18 flats, Reeves House has 7 flats set over four floors (no lift), Hayward House has 6 flats over three floors (with a lift) and St Catherine's Hospital has 11 flats all on the same level.

The almshouses have 24 hour cover provided by wardens located at the main site who cannot offer medical or personal care but are supportive figures for residents.

All residents pay a weekly maintenance charge.

Applications are welcomed from both single people and couples.

To request an application form for accommodation you can call 01634 842 194, email admin@richardwatts.org.uk or call in to our offices.

All suitable applicants will be visited and interviewed by two trustees before a final decision can be made.
