Pembroke House is the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust's care and nursing home.
It has 55 rooms catering specifically to those who have served in the Royal Navy and Royal Marines and their spouses, although applications from other Services and the wider community will be considered.
Pembroke House provides respite care, residential care, nursing care and end of life care.
Most residents are aged 65 and over and there are slightly more male residents than female.
All rooms have en-suite facilities, call buttons, and telephone point and internet access if required.
Residents can bring personal possessions and small items of furniture if they wish. If needed, special beds and other equipment are available.
There is always at least one fully qualified nurse on duty assisted by several healthcare attendants.
A local GP visits the home although residents may retain their own GP.
About the rooms
The home has 12 day rooms and dining rooms. The Bridge is a lounge on the top floor with views across the River Medway to the Thames Estuary.
A day room on the ground floor is usually separated into two lounges and a bar, though it is opened up for functions.
On the first floor there is a terrace where families can spend time with residents outside where tables chairs and benches are available overlooking the river Medway, and there is another lounge.
Each floor of the home has its own dining room and the kitchen is linked by a lift to the dining rooms on the upper floors.
The landscaped gardens including walled garden provide the opportunity for relaxation and for gardening.
Activities and events
Pembroke House has an Activities Coordinator who arranges in-house activities including handicrafts, music and movement, bingo and weekly quizzes.
Concerts, parties and visits from ex-Service organisations are also common.
Pembroke House also has its own 14-seater minibus with a wheelchair hoist for external events.
Lots of volunteers provide companionship, practical help and support.
