Medway Libraries are taking part in the Medway Light Nights Festival on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 February 2023.
We're inviting people of all ages to share the fun by taking part in exciting, light-themed activities and events from 6pm to 9pm at Chatham Library and Community Hub.
Twilight storytime and craft
- 6.15pm to 7pm.
A magical craft session, followed by stories under our starry night gazebo. Teddies welcome!
Recommended for ages 3 to 6 years.

Drop-in art installation
- 6.15pm to 8.45pm.
Get crafty with local artist, Claire Tulppo, as she creates a stunning, large-scale community art installation, inspired by a much-loved Medway landmark.
All ages are welcome. No booking required.
Light Up Lit: open mic poetry corner
- 6.15pm to 9pm.
Calling all budding poets to step up to the mic! With our chosen theme, 'May the light be with you', we welcome you to bring along your poems and present them on our mini stage.
Hosted by local poet, Barry Fentiman-Hall, this will be the perfect opportunity to share your ideas, pick up writing tips and improve your performance skills.
All ages are welcome. No booking required.
Under the stars storytime and craft
- 7.15pm to 8pm.
Make your own light up lantern, followed by an indoor 'camp out' and story under a starry gazebo.
Recommended for ages 6 to 10 years.

Lightbox stories
As part of Medway Light Nights Festival, children and young people can share their stories by creating their own lightbox.
Use a shoe box, or similar, to recreate your favourite book, film, or special place. Once you’ve finished decorating your box, add some battery-operated lights if you have them.
When you've finished, write your first name and age on the bottom
If you’d like to keep your box, please collect them from the library by Saturday 11 March 2023. Unfortunately, we do not have storage capacity and will have to dispose of any boxes that are not collected.
