Wedding fees

The total cost of a wedding will be the following added together:

  • relevant fee or fees for legal preliminaries
  • relevant fee or fees for the ceremony, depending on the venue
  • cost of certificates at £11 each.

To give notice of intention to marry when either of the couple is subject to the Home Office Referral and Investigation Scheme. This fee is payable for each of the couple and is payable for all civil weddings.

Marriage in the Church of England or Church in Wales

Information about fees payable can be obtained from the vicar of the church in which you wish to marry.

If a religious building has an authorised person to register weddings, a registrar will not need to be present. Otherwise, there is a £86 fee for a registrar to attend. The trustees of the building may also charge additional fees.

Fee example

For example, a couple marrying in the Library Room on a Saturday and wanting 2 certificates would pay:

  • notice of their intention to marry: £35 each, £70 in total for the couple
  • booking fee of £60
  • a ceremony fee of £250
  • the price of 2 certificates at £11 each, a total of £22.

The full total for this example would be £402.
