Request dropped kerb pre-application advice

You can request pre-application advice before applying to:

  • install a new dropped kerb
  • extend an existing dropped kerb.

We will:

  • visit the site where you’d like to install or extend a dropped kerb
  • complete all necessary checks (that you’d normally need to do using our checklist)
  • tell you if we would approve your application or not
  • identify any issues and provide guidance. For example, if you need planning permission or engineering works.

Request pre-application advice

Complete our online form to request pre-application advice.

You will need:

  • the property address
  • to tell us if there are any utility covers, trees or streetlights at the site
  • your contact details
  • to pay £160 (this fee is non-refundable).

You can also upload photos of the site where you want to install or extend the dropped kerb.

What happens after

Once you have requested pre-application advice, we’ll conduct a site visit within 14 days. You do not need to be present for this visit.

We’ll write to you to let you know the outcome of our checks.

If our pre-application advice shows that you can install or extend a dropped kerb:

  • we’ll invite you to apply using our short online form
  • you’ll pay a reduced fee of £270.

If our pre-application advice shows you cannot install or extend a dropped kerb, we’ll let you know the reasons why.
