Educational psychologists

Educational psychologists specialise in promoting learning, development, emotional wellbeing and positive outcomes for children, young people and their families.

All qualified educational psychologists employed by Medway Council are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council.

To qualify as an educational psychologist you need:

  • an undergraduate degree in psychology
  • experience working with children and young people (for example as a teacher)
  • a 3-year doctorate degree in child and educational psychology (post-2006) or a Masters level degree in educational psychology (pre-2006).

Trainee educational psychologists and assistant educational psychologists

We also have trainee educational psychologists and assistant educational psychologists in our team.

Trainee educational psychologists are on placement with us during their second or third year of their 3-year doctoral training programme. All of their work is supervised by a qualified educational psychologist in accordance with the Practice Placement Partnership Framework.

Our assistant educational psychologists all have an undergraduate degree in psychology as well as experience of working with schools and young people. All of their work is supervised by a qualified educational psychologist in accordance with guidance from the British Psychological Society and the Association of Educational Psychologists.
