We are undertaking a detailed review of the education, training and employment offer available to young people aged 16 to 19 (and up to age 25 for those with an Education, Health and Care Plan).

The review aims to expand the options and life chances of our young people by improving the education, skills and training opportunities available to them. We want to develop a richer and deeper understanding of the main issues that young people and post-16 providers in Medway face, and how these can be addressed.

The review will:

  • look at the post-16 options currently available
  • identify and evidence areas for development
  • provide recommendations for improvement that we and our partners can take forward.

Our aim is to ensure that:

  • a wide range of opportunities are available and accessible to our young people
  • they are informed and advised about them
  • they are supported as they progress into and through post-16 provision.

This will help ensure that they achieve in their chosen post-16 route, and that they are in a good place at age 19 to make further progress in their young adult lives.

Take part in the review

We encourage as many people as possible to engage with the review. There are many ways in which we're enabling those involved in post-16 provision, or with an interest in it, to take part.

You can submit responses until Monday 20 February 2023.

Post-16 provider working with young people

We aim to offer each post-16 provider working with young people from Medway the opportunity for some of their staff to meet with a member of the review team for a discussion around the key issues.

Young people currently in Year 11

For young people currently in Year 11, there is an online survey that we hope as many of you as possible will be able to complete.

Young people in Year 12

For young people in Year 12 (or the equivalent if you have left school at 16) we will be working with providers to run small focus group discussions to find out your views.

Others involved or with an interest in post-16 provision

For everyone else involved or with an interest in post-16 provision we're running a Call for Written Evidence.

A process of public consultation forms a major part of the review. Members of the review team are engaging with providers from across the sector, but they cannot see everyone.

We are keen that as many people as possible with an involvement or interest in post-16 provision in Medway can contribute. We are therefore running the Call for Evidence as a way of encouraging and allowing those not being seen by the review team to provide their views.

There are 2 online forms: one for providers and one for other interested parties. These outline the issues the review is focusing on.

Post-16 providers

Our post-16 providers form is intended to seek the comments of individuals and organisations directly involved in aspects of 16 to 19 provision in Medway.

If you're not so involved, but still have an interest in 16 to 19 provision (perhaps as an employer, a local or national government agency, or a higher education institution), see our interested parties form.

Interested parties

Our interested parties form intends to seek the comments of individuals and organisations with an interest in 16 to 19 provision in Medway but who are not directly involved in the provision itself.
