One Medway Charter

Eight organisations in Medway have signed a historic agreement to drive social and economic change in the area. 

The One Medway Charter commits the organisations to work together to exploit opportunities and address challenges in priority areas identified by the community. 

The signatories are: 

  • Medway Council 
  • Mid-Kent College 
  • Canterbury Christ Church University 
  • The University of Greenwich 
  • The University of Kent 
  • The Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust 
  • Medway NHS Foundation Trust 
  • Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust. 

In other parts of the country where similar civic agreements have been signed - including Manchester, Exeter, Nottingham, Derby and Leicester - real and tangible benefits are being delivered for the people of those cities and regions.

The One Medway Charter

  • Medway is a great place to live, work, learn and visit. It is a place to be proud of, a vibrant, diverse and dynamic region and an exciting hub of creativity, innovation and economic growth.
  • We are One Medway and we, the organisations, each have a proud history of working across our different areas and over many years to help Medway grow and thrive. Through this charter, we pledge to work closely together for the people and communities of Medway to help drive social and economic change in the area. 
  • No organisation can solve complex challenges on its own and so this charter combines the collective strength of these organisations to deliver long-term change in Medway through collaboration and engagement. It represents the start of a journey, signalling a joint commitment to the region and its people, a pledge to listen and learn as we go, and to act accordingly. We will engage with other organisations and invite them to sign up to the charter. We are open in our approach and invite others to join our journey.
  • We will address the challenges of Medway focusing on priority areas, including, but not limited to:
    • business and the economy
    • education and skills
    • health and wellbeing
    • sustainability and the environment
    • arts, creativity and culture. 
  • We will engage with the local community and organisations to determine their priorities, ensuring the collective skills, expertise and vision of these and other organisations are harnessed to deliver real and lasting change.
