The Town and Country Planning (Development Management Procedure) (England) Order 2015 (Sections 40 to 42) requires each local authority to keep a register of every application for planning permission relating to their area (parts 1 and 2 of the register).

In part 3 of the register, Section 41 requires details of Local Development Orders (both which have been prepared but not adopted and those which have been adopted) to be published.

Part 4 of the register should contain details on Neighbourhood Development Orders.

This page provides details relating to Part 3 of the Planning Register: Local Development Orders.

There are currently no draft LDOs in production.

Innovation Park Medway

Local development order for high value technology, advanced manufacturing, engineering and knowledge-intensive businesses

The government has pursued a programme of enterprise zones as a way of stimulating economic growth throughout the country. One site within Medway, Innovation Park Medway, forms part of the North Kent Enterprise Zone.

Innovation Park Medway is one of three North Kent Enterprise Zone sites that offer tax breaks and government support. This makes them ideal places for new and expanding organisations to do business.

The site is within both Medway Council and Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council's administrative boundaries, which are shown below. This means that two separate LDOs have been prepared for each authority. For consistency they should be read together.

Boundaries between Medway Council and Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council

The site is split into 4 main areas to the north and south of Rochester Airport.

A local development order is the planning mechanism chosen to simplify planning and enable accelerated economic development.

Innovation Park Medway will support the development of up to 101,000 square metres of high value technology, advanced manufacturing, engineering and knowledge-intensive businesses.

It will do this within the following Use Classes of the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987 (as amended) regulations 2020:

  • E(g)(i) business office
  • E(g)(ii) research and development of products and processes
  • E(g)(iii) industrial processes
  • B2 general industrial uses

The permitted development rights granted by this local development order are in addition to permitted development rights granted nationally. These rights are granted only within the area identified on the local development order map above.

These rights are subject to restrictions and conditions.

The order was adopted on 17 December 2020.
