2026
So far this year, we have:
- installed 8 new CCTV cameras in Gillingham High Street
- started an ANPR camera trial, and extended parking restrictions in the pedestrianised high street from 6.30pm to 12am
- worked with the Royal Engineers to install a new commemorative sign at Sappers Walk, which will be revealed in July 2026
- started work on a new art mural at Railway Bridge, which will be revealed in July 2026
- improved police presence in the high street to tackle anti-social behaviour
- recruited an additional street operative to help clean the high street every day
- secured public realm improvements for Civic Square, which includes new lighting, creative art installations, seating, and planted areas
- planned our third Big Day Out event for July 2026.
2025
December
We held a workshop with local partners to review the Gillingham Vision and Action Plan.
The workshop, led by consultants BPTW, focused on identifying and prioritising projects that could be delivered to help achieve the vision for Gillingham.
The workshop was held across 2 sessions.
November
Gillingham Taskforce helped run the Christmas lights switch-on event in Gillingham High Street.
August
There was a 24% reduction of waste-related reports in Gillingham High Street compared to August 2024.
Gillingham High Street now receives a morning clean and litter bin emptying from Monday to Friday until 4pm. A weekend crew now works to clean the high street on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
July
We launched our Town Centre Vision and Action Plan. We also ran a public consultation to get your feedback.
We held our second Big Day Out event.
June
Litter enforcement handed out 263 fines between July 2024 and June 2025.
January
Our final community panel workshop was held before our consultants developed the draft Vision and Action Plan.
Our consultants were BPTW and Design South East.

Our partners at Medway Norse carried out tree improvement works throughout Gillingham High Street.
November
We held the first of 3 community panel workshops with our members.
The aim of these workshops was to create a Gillingham Town Centre Action Plan for a clear vision and projects for the coming years.
