A safety, wellbeing and support campaign
There may be a time, while out in public spaces, that you feel unsafe or vulnerable.
This could be due to illness, being lost or through being a victim of crime or anti-social behaviour. You may even feel unsafe due to stories in the media or rumours on social media.
Whatever the reason, our ‘It’s good to know!’ campaign aims to highlight some of the services available to help you feel safer and to reassure you that we're all working to keep Medway safe, whatever the circumstances.
You may never need to use any of the advice or ideas suggested but ‘it’s good to know’.

Exercising alone
With 7 Green Flag parks, historical backdrops, river paths and a wealth of greenspaces, Medway is a great place to exercise. You could also join one of the many clubs and activities running across Medway.
Letting someone know where you're going or using a tracker can help if there is an emergency such as a bad fall or getting lost.

Drink spiking
There is little high-quality research published on the nature and extent of spiking in the UK. While official figures suggest it is not common, it's a concern that's often mentioned by young people.
The video above provides some preventative ideas. But it’s important to remember the problem is with those that spike drinks, not the person they target.

Medway Safe Spaces
If you see a business displaying the Safe Spaces logo, this means they can offer a space for someone who is ill, lost, confused or has been a victim of crime. This allows them to call a relative, a taxi or the emergency services if needed.
It highlights the sense of community togetherness within Medway, with businesses being there to support their local community.
Medway Safe Spaces scheme launched in Rochester in June 2022. It has since been adopted across Medway.
