Luton Millennium Green is a local open space in Luton, Chatham and provides a vital greenspace for the large and diverse community who live around it.

The site connects with Coney Banks and is part of the Horsted Valley network, which combine various opens spaces together throughout Chatham.

The community group Arches Local help to improve the open space in partnership with us.

We held a community event during autumn 2022 to find out what improvements residents would like to see in Luton Millennium Green.

Some of the improvements people wanted to see were:

  • clearing vegetation and improvements to sightlines in and around the park
  • improvements around the amphitheatre
  • more seating
  • a community orchard
  • improved play area.

Improvements

We were awarded funding to carry out the improvements. The funding has come from the Levelling Up Parks Fund (LUPF) and developer contributions (Section 106 contributions).

Improvements were completed in January 2024 and include:

  • a larger play area, with equipment for both toddlers and juniors
  • planting of a community orchard with various fruit trees
  • planting and maintenance of more trees
  • footpath improvements
  • clearing overgrown vegetation to open up sightlines and views within the site.

The new play area was officially opened by the Mayor of Medway, Cllr Nina Gurung, on 21 February 2024 with the attendance of a local primary school.

By significantly refurbishing Luton Millennium Green we hope more local residents will make use of and enjoy this valuable greenspace.
