Join thousands of others runners, joggers and walkers for the 12th annual Medway Mile.

The 12th annual Medway Mile will take place on Friday 19 July 2019 at Rochester Castle. The Medway Mile is a free, mass participation action-packed event.

Offering all participants a chance to get active and with so many different events and activities taking place during the day, there really is something for everyone.

This year's Medway Mile offers:

  • a mass mile
  • free sporting activities and tasters
  • inflatables
  • arts and crafts and face painting
  • a competitive adult race (registration is separate for this race)
  • children’s races include under 5s
  • parent and toddler fun run, 5 to 7 years
  • sprint races, 8 to 11 years 
  • track races (on the night registration only)
  • mascot race (to register email medwaysport@medway.gov.uk)
  • live sporting entertainment
  • fireworks finale


  • 5pm - Event entertainment opens  
  • 5.30pm - Children's races
  • 6.30pm - The official mascot race
  • 7pm - Competitive race - Adults (16 years and above)
  • 7.30pm - Mass participation warm up
  • 7.45pm - The Medway Mile 2019
  • 8.45pm - Live sporting show
  • 9.30pm - Fireworks finale

The pre registration for the Medway Mile 2019 is now closed, this is for the free event t-shirts.

We are still encouraging people to attend on the evening to join in all the free activities as listed below. You do not need to register to attend the event.

Register for Medway Mile - Competitive Adult Race

As part of the Medway Mile celebrations this is a 1 mile challenge event on varied urban terrain. Offering a competitive race for runners, which is separate from the Mass Mile event.

It is aimed at club athletes but also open to experienced non-club runners.

This unofficial race will test the speed of athletes, so we are seeking sub 7 minute (male) and sub 9 minute (female) athletes to enter this race.

Entry will be refused if you cannot compete with these times.

Medals will be awarded on the main stage for first to third placed male and female athletes, immediately after the race.

Registration for this part of the event is now closed and we cannot accept on the night entries.

Medway Daily School Mile

Create your own one mile route around your school with our resource pack and young leader training.

Encourage your pupils to lead an active and healthy lifestyle by walking, skipping, jogging, tip-toeing or running a mile each day.

Medway Parks Mile

Medway Sport are planning to launch 26 parks miles to encourage Medway residents to get active with a daily mile walk, jog or run in their nearest park.

The routes will be mapped out here and displayed in the parks.
