Work has begun to build Medway’s new multi-million-pound family-friendly sports centre.

The new modern, family-friendly facility in Bloors Lane, Rainham, will have two swimming pools – a children’s fun pool with flume, wave ball pool and beach area, and a training pool for lane swimming and lessons, as well as a fitness gym and room for exercise classes and children’s parties.

We are investing £23.650million on the new centre which supports its ambition of providing more child-friendly facilities and further opportunities for Medway’s young people.

The centre will have a modern, family-friendly look and feel, including family and accessible changing rooms. There will also be electric charging parking spaces, in support of Medway’s climate change and carbon neutral aims and ambitions.

Willmott Dixon Construction Limited is building the new centre which is anticipated to open as early as summer 2024.

Providing opportunities for families

Cllr Howard Doe, Deputy Leader of Medway Council and Portfolio Holder for Community Services, said: “I am delighted that work has begun to build this superb new family-friendly sporting facility in Rainham. The centre will provide opportunities for families across Medway to become more active and enjoy a range of fun activities. We know that generations of residents have fond memories of Splashes, and I am very pleased that this exciting new centre will provide future generations with even more opportunities. I look forward to watching the works progress.”

Leaving a lasting-legacy

Richard Poulter, Managing Director for Willmott Dixon Construction South, said: “We are thrilled to be working in partnership with Medway Council to deliver a new and exciting state-of-the-art sports facility for its residents. Through our network of local supply chain partners and our embedded social value programme, we look forward to leaving a lasting-legacy in the local community and provide opportunities for children and young people in the area.”
