Adam Bryan has been appointed as Medway Council’s new Director of Place.

Adam, currently the Chief Executive at South East Local Enterprise Partnership (SELEP), will take on one of the most senior roles in the council.

The Director of Place is responsible for leading Medway’s monumental regeneration programme, ensuring the delivery of critical front line services to its 280,000 residents, and continuing to drive the vibrant cultural programme that is putting Medway on the Map at the moment. Adam will continue the work of driving the council’s placemaking agenda, and further establishing Medway as a great place to live, work, learn and visit.

Adam will replace Richard Hicks, who was announced in February as the council’s new Chief Executive, replacing Neil Davies who retires at the end of June.

Adam brings extensive experience to this senior role having worked at SELEP since 2016, transforming the reputation of the country’s largest LEP and increasing its funding to more than £800m. He has a strong background leading public sector economic growth on the regional and national stage, and has a strong track record of constructive joint working and influencing national policy on economic growth.

Prior to this, Adam worked as the Head of Place Partnership Integration at Essex County Council, producing and implementing the ‘Economic Plan for Essex’, so is very familiar with the service councils provide.

Neil Davies, current Chief Executive at Medway Council, said: “The Director of Place is an incredibly important role, leading Medway’s regeneration programme and providing residents with vital services.

“I am delighted with Adam’s appointment; his impressive background will contribute to Medway’s ongoing work to further develop economic opportunities to support our residents.”
