A team who helps businesses improve the wellbeing of their staff has won a prestigious national award.

Our Public Health team won ‘Wellbeing Consultancy of the Year’ at the Inside Out Awards on Wednesday, 7 June.

The award was given in recognition of the success of the Medway Healthy Workplace Programme, which helps local businesses support the health and wellbeing of their staff.

Businesses are supported to work through the Medway Workplace Wellbeing award framework, which is endorsed by the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities.

Our A Better Medway Team helps businesses develop a health at work action plan to address the health needs of their staff, as well as mental health awareness training, on site blood pressure checks, stop smoking support, physical activity challenges, a range of health and wellbeing webinars and more.

As businesses progress through the programme, they are given awards to mark to their journey towards being a healthy workplace, starting with bronze through to silver, gold and platinum.

At last week’s awards the judges highlighted the Medway Healthy Workplace Programme as a wonderful example of how a small team can have a significant impact. They were impressed that more than 200 local businesses had been reached and that 100 per cent of them recommended the programme.

Fantastic achievement

Cllr Teresa Murray, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Health and Adults’ Services at Medway Council, said: “I would like to offer a huge congratulations to our Public Health team for this fantastic achievement – it is great to see their hard work being recognised and celebrated at a national level. Mental wellbeing is of the upmost importance and finding ways to be healthy both in our work and personal lives is vital. I would encourage all of Medway’s businesses find out more about this brilliant free programme.”
