The Salvation Army has launched a new partnership with us to bring new clothing donation banks to local residents and provide a sustainable solution for their used textiles.
New clothing donation banks are now available for members of the community to donate their pre-loved handbags, clothing and shoes. As the largest charity owned textiles collector in the U.K, the Salvation Army Textile Company (SATCoL) is actively working to support organisations to reduce their carbon footprint and combat climate change. Through their reuse and recycling schemes, they extend the useful life of products, and divert items away from disposal.
Donations will be resold and profits received will be given to The Salvation Army to support the great work they do throughout the country. The Salvation Army provides practical help for people in need, such as specialist support for survivors and potential victims of modern slavery, shelter for those experiencing homelessness and so much more.
Make a difference
Cllr Simon Curry, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for covering Waste Collection and Recycling, said: “We are pleased to have partnered with the Salvation Army so residents can donate pre-loved clothes, shoes and handbags to textile banks across Medway. As well as donating to charity, by using the textile banks residents will also help stop these reusable items from being thrown away and disposed of. We are proud to have textile banks at our recycling points as small changes such as this can make a difference in the fight against climate change.”
Working to reduce waste
Kirk Bradley, Head of Corporate Partnerships at SATCoL shared: “SATCoL is working to reduce waste and thanks to partnerships like this more donated garments can be repurposed, resold and raise more money for vital charity work.”
SATCoL divert over 250 million items each year to good uses, including over 65,000 tonnes of textiles.
