Eight of Medway’s fantastic greenspaces have again been recognised by the Green Flag Award Scheme.

Broomhill Park, Capstone Farm Country Park, Gillingham Park, Hillyfields Community Park, Riverside Country Park, The Great Lines Heritage Park, The Vines Gardens and Ranscombe Farm Reserve been recognised among the best greenspaces in the United Kingdom and around the world.

The Fields of Fire at The Great Lines Heritage Park has also achieved the Green Heritage Site Accreditation, supported by Historic England, for the management of its historic features.

Each of Medway’s eight award-winning parks have something different to offer residents and visitors, from lakes, military history, woodlands, views of the River Medway and much more.

Medway’s parks and countryside are maintained all year round to make sure that residents can enjoy them in all seasons.

Delighted that eight of our brilliant parks have been recognised

Cllr Simon Curry, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder covering Greenspaces, said: “We are delighted that eight of our brilliant parks have been recognised by Keep Britain Tidy and the Green Flag Award Scheme once again. We have such a wide variety of greenspaces which have fantastic facilities for residents of all ages to enjoy. I would like to thank all of our dedicated volunteers and friends’ groups as well as Medway Norse and Plantlife for all their hard work to maintain our parks to such a high, award-winning, standard.”

The Green Flag Award scheme, managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under licence from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, recognises and rewards well-managed parks and greenspaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of greenspaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.

Staff and volunteers so do much

Keep Britain Tidy’s Green Flag Award Scheme Manager Paul Todd MBE said: “I would like to congratulate everyone involved in achieving a Green Flag Award. The staff and volunteers do so much to ensure that it maintains the high standards of the Green Flag Award and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievement.”

The awards support our aspiration to become even more child-friendly – providing more opportunities for the area’s children and young people.
