A pioneering project which provides support and advice to vulnerable women in Medway, has won a prestigious award.

Our ‘Ladies Night’ project won the delivering services to vulnerable people award at the Kent Housing Group Excellence Awards on Tuesday, 26 September.

The awards – the Oscars for our regional housing sector – celebrate the very best projects, professionals and partnerships across housing in Kent and Medway.

Ladies Night is an informal monthly meeting for vulnerable women including those who are homeless or are working as sex workers, can access support from a number of different services including housing, sexual health and substance misuse services.

The women attending do not need to provide any personal information, if they don’t wish to, and are given a list of services which are represented in the room that they can talk to for advice on the support available.

This unique approach to supporting vulnerable women gives them control over how and when they can access support and Ladies Night has been a big success with 56 women attending the evenings over the last nine months.

Empowering women to access a range of support and advice

Cllr Naushabah Khan, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing and Property, said: “I am delighted that our innovative Ladies Night sessions have won a Kent Housing Group Excellence Award. Ladies Night empowers women to access a range of support and advice, on their terms. The sessions are safe spaces where these vulnerable women can feel welcome, safe and listened to. I would like to thank council staff and partner agencies for working together to make these evenings possible.”
