Medway residents are invited to attend a new open information evening this November hosted by Medway Council to find out about the latest news and plans and put their questions to the council leaders.

Medway Matters Live, named after the council’s much-loved seasonal resident magazine, will enable residents to hear directly from Leader Cllr Vince Maple and Chief Executive Richard Hicks – both of whom took up their roles earlier this year.

Former BBC South East broadcast journalist, Rob Smith, will be hosting the new event. Rob is not only a multi-award winning TV and radio journalist, but he is a Medway resident and has brought up his family in the area.

The event will take place on Tuesday 28 November from 7pm-8.30pm at the Howard School, Rainham where both Vince and Richard studied, so it was the obvious choice of venue for the very first Medway Matters Live public conference.

After the evening has been opened by Rob, Vince and Richard will update the audience on the developments in the council over the past six months and set out the council’s vision and plans for the coming four years. Attendees will also have the chance to put their questions direct to the council leaders during the evening and to give their views on the topics for the evening.

Working hard to better support our residents

Leader of Medway Council, Vince Maple, said: “When I was elected as council leader in May, I pledged to improve the way residents can interact with the council and to build closer links with the Medway community. Alongside our weekly One Minute Medway, I am delighted to be holding a new public information evening and am looking forward to meeting even more residents to discuss not only what they love about Medway, but also hear from them their concerns about the area or realistic improvement suggestions as well as answering their questions on the topics we cover. We are working hard to better support our residents and improve Medway and this is something I have started to address; however, this new public conference will give us the opportunity to have an open and honest discussion with residents about some of the challenges we too, as a council,  face.”

Helping us shape the future of Medway

Chief Executive of Medway Council, Richard Hicks, said: “I am incredibly proud of where I live and work and am grateful to The Howard School, one of Medway’s fantastic secondary schools, for giving Vince and me the opportunity to set foot there again, and to hold this important event for our residents to meet with us and to hear about some of the things we’re working on. We want to hear from our residents and are making the event interactive, giving everyone the opportunity to get involved in the discussion, helping us shape the future of Medway, a place we can all be proud of.”
