Strood Sports Centre last week welcomed a delegation of Argentinian footballers, who came to honour one of the founding fathers of their sport in their country.
Strood is the birthplace of Isaac Newell, the man who helped pioneer football in Argentina in the late 19th Century, and later gave his name to the Argentinian club, Newell’s Old Boys.
Now an exhibition at Strood Sports Centre is providing a destination for Argentinian footballing pilgrims – and the latest visitors are set to become part of the exhibition themselves.
Among the group to visiting last Friday, 17 November, were former Newell’s Old Boys player and current Chelsea Assistant Manager Miguel D’Agostino; and former club doctor turned coach Dr Fernando Bacci.
Their visit will now be documented in a new wall panel at the club.
