A new art exhibition from Kent-based artist Ian Bottle is set to open at Rochester Art Gallery.

The exhibition will open with a free preview evening open to all on Friday, 26 January from 6.30pm – 8.30pm and will run until Saturday, 13 April.

‘OVER LAP’ explores ideas around time, memory and place. The work includes paintings, prints, artist’s books and 3D constructed wall pieces, and is influenced by the challenges people face with processing information they are continually confronted with.

Ian’s work has previously been exhibited in Amsterdam, Barcelona, Bristol, London and Margate.

Get down to this latest exhibition

Cllr Harinder Mahil, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Heritage, Culture and Leisure, said: “We have lots of local talented artists and people who are passionate about the arts in Medway, and I would encourage both residents and visitors to Medway to make sure they get themselves down to this latest exhibition. It is running from the end of January to mid-April, so there’s plenty of time to catch it the next time you are in Rochester!”

Reveal moments of insight

Ian Bottle, Artist, said: “The pieces are informed by drawings and photographs that explore patterns within our seeing, thinking and doing, by simultaneously building up and breaking down an image or sculptural form until a coherent structure emerges. The title of the show, ‘OVER LAP’ refers to this process and the potential for disruption to reveal moments of insight.”

An artist-led workshop will also be taking place during the course of the exhibition. Workshop details will be announced on Medway Council’s website shortly.
