We have issued a statement welcoming the decision to move children and young people to alternative accommodation.
Cllr Adam Price, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, said: “I welcome today’s announcement that all children and young people living in HMYOI Cookham Wood will be moved to alternative accommodation. It is disappointing to hear that the young offender institution has still not met the required improvements to be run at a level which is best supporting the rehabilitation of vulnerable children and young people and our concerns were expressed again at the meeting of the council’s Children and Young People Overview and Scrutiny Committee in January. Currently, there are no Medway children in this facility who will be displaced from the area.“
