We are proud to support Foster Care Fortnight, which runs from Monday, 12 May to Sunday, 25 May.
The annual campaign, which is run by The Fostering Network, aims to raise awareness about the need for foster carers and encourage more people to join the fostering community, as well as celebrating the amazing work foster carers do day in, day out.
This year’s theme is ‘The Power of Relationships’ and highlights that strong and trusting relationships are at the heart of every fostering journey.
Throughout the two weeks, Medway Council will be running a number of events for the public to find out more about fostering, as well as events specifically for Medway’s fostering community.
To thank foster carers for their vital work, Medway’s Fostering team will once again be hosting its annual afternoon tea event on Friday, 16 May.
A coffee morning session was also held on Wednesday, 14 May, where those going through the fostering application process were invited to hear directly from foster carers with lived experience who shared their insight and knowledge.
Our team will also be running a number online drop-in sessions over throughout Foster Care Fortnight where you can learn more about fostering, as well as ask any questions you may have. The online sessions include:
- Foster care information sessions: Monday, 19 May – 7.30pm – 8.30pm; Wednesday, 21 May – 12noon – 1pm; Friday, 23 May - 12.30pm - 1.30pm.

Incredible impact
Cllr Adam Price, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services, said: “Foster carers change people’s lives, and I would like to personally thank each and every one of Medway’s foster carers and supported lodgings providers for what they do.
“Foster Care Fortnight is a fantastic chance to recognise the incredible impact and key part these people play in our community, but also an opportunity for more people to find out about fostering and see if it is something they themselves might like to get involved in. We are running some great sessions – so if you’re interested, please do come along and find out more.”
