Runners in a race. Published: Monday, 19th May 2025

Registrations are now open for one of Medway’s biggest sporting events of the year.

The always-popular Medway Mile is returning once again with the fun starting at Medway Park from 5pm on Friday, 18 July.

Whether you are a seasoned runner, have just started the couch to 5K or maybe walking is more your speed – the free event is open to everyone.

Throughout the evening there will also be plenty of family-friendly fun and entertainment, with free sports activities, a mascot race, live entertainment, facepainting with Child-Friendly Medway, an inflatable toddler zone and much more on offer.

The first event of the evening will be the children’s track races at 5pm, which are sponsored by Child-Friendly Medway. Everyone who takes part will get a medal so they can proudly show they took part.

Next up is the mascot race at 6pm, followed by the Medway running groups mixed relay and athletics club track races.

At 7.30pm everyone who is taking part in the Mass Medway Mile will head over to the Great Lines Heritage Park before the main event starts at 8pm.

This year’s one-mile course will be based entirely on the Great Lines, where participants will pass the iconic Chatham Naval Memorial and be able to soak in amazing views of both Gillingham and Chatham.

Cllr Nina Gurung, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Heritage, Culture and Leisure, said: “We are all really excited about cheering on the thousands of residents who will be putting their best foot forward at this year’s Medway Mile! It is wonderful that there will be loads of exciting family-friendly activities for children and young people to enjoy – and I look forward to seeing you all there. Make sure you sign up today!”
