We are proud to support Fair Tax Week 2025, which runs from Sunday, 8 June to Sunday, 15 June.
Fair Tax Week is run by the Fair Tax Foundation and aims to raise awareness about the importance of responsible tax conduct and financial transparency.
Medway is one of more than 60 Fair Tax local authorities in the United Kingdom and declared its commitment to the Fair Tax Mark in July 2023.
As part of this declaration, Medway agreed to 10 resolutions which have either already been embedded in its day-to-day business or are in the process of being embedded.
These resolutions include leading by example, ensuring tax legislation is implemented robustly, demanding clarity from suppliers and not using offshore vehicles for buying land and property.
Fair share
Cllr Vince Maple, Leader of Medway Council, said: “We are proud to be backing Fair Tax Week and playing our part in ensuring the businesses we work with pay their fair share. Fair Tax Week is a way to celebrate and recognise the organisations that are proud to pay the right amount of tax, which benefits us all and supports crucial frontline services both here in Medway and across the country.”
Support public services
Paul Monaghan, CEO of the Fair Tax Foundation, said: “Tax is so important when considered against the huge array of public services it helps support. Fair Tax Week is the perfect opportunity to celebrate councils like Medway Council that are proud to stand up for responsible tax conduct. The UK loses an estimated £14billion in corporate tax revenues as a result of multinational profit shifting alone. Backing fair tax should be clear common ground for all parties this year.
“More and more councils want to use their buying power to encourage responsible tax conduct, allowing businesses to compete fairly. We would like to see public authorities have greater powers to be able to reward good corporate tax conduct when buying goods and services.”
