We have doubled the amount of funding available across two grant schemes aimed at supporting small to medium sized businesses (SME) in Medway.

Under the Partners for Growth (PFG) grant scheme, first-time applicants can now apply for up to £2,000 to support business development, expansion or job creation.

Following the increase to the scheme, any business which successfully applied for a PFG grant before May 2025 will also be able to apply for an additional £1,000.

Funding from the PFG could be used to upskill staff, improve equipment or systems to support business expansion, help develop new products and more.

The Partners for Green Growth (PFGG) grant, which supports businesses in Medway looking to improve their environmental performance, has also seen the amount of funding available double from £2,500 to £5,000.

SMEs can now apply for up to £5,000 to help cover the costs of sustainable initiatives such as energy efficiency improvements, waste reduction or green technology adoption. Previous recipients of the PFGG grant before May 2025 can also apply for an additional £2,500 to continue their green journey.

Both schemes are open to all SMEs based in Medway. To be eligible for the PFGG grant, businesses must also hold a valid net-zero audit certificate or have a detailed decarbonisation plan in place.

To support businesses in identifying opportunities for decarbonisation, we are working in partnership with the Kent Invicta Chamber of Commerce to offer free net-zero audits. These audits provide tailored recommendations to help businesses reduce their carbon footprint, cut energy costs, and work towards achieving net-zero emissions.

A bit of extra support

Cllr Harinder Mahil, Portfolio Holder for Economic and Social Regeneration and Inward Investment, said: “It is great news for businesses in Medway that we have been able to double the amount of funding available under both of these schemes.

“These schemes are there to support long-term and sustainable growth, so we felt it was important that businesses which had already successfully applied to either of these schemes weren’t disadvantaged by this uplift. So whether you are looking to take the first steps with your business or you are in a position to take it to the next level with a bit of extra support, I would encourage you to check out these schemes and apply today.”
