Medway Council will host Medway's first Veterans' Wellbeing Fair this autumn.
Taking place at The Royal Engineers Museum on Saturday, 10 October, from 10am to 2pm, the fair is aimed at veterans, serving personnel and their families – but everyone is welcome to attend.
Entry to the museum will be free for anyone attending the event between 10am and 2pm.
Taking place on World Mental Health Day, the Veterans' Wellbeing Fair is designed to promote local services supporting mental, physical, financial and social wellbeing.
Visitors will be able to find out more about the support available from us and a range of local partner organisations, with more than 30 already signed up to attend.
Attendees include Samaritans, Barclays, Medway Adult Education, Healthwatch Medway, Chatham Medway West Kent Armed Forces & Veterans Breakfast Club, Royal Naval Association Chatham, Kent Association for the Blind, Medway Public Health and more.
Proud military history
Cllr Vince Maple, Leader of Medway Council, said: "Medway has a proud military history and as a council we are committed to supporting the whole Armed Forces family as best we can. This fair will bring together a wide range of organisations offering advice, guidance and support in one place, making it easier for veterans and their families to access the help available to them. I would like to thank everyone involved in organising the event and all the organisations taking part."
Wealth of help available
Cllr Ron Sands, Medway Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: "World Mental Health Day provides an important opportunity to raise awareness of the challenges some veterans can face after leaving the Armed Forces. Whether someone is looking for support with their wellbeing, employment, finances, education or social connections, the fair will showcase the wealth of help available across Medway and beyond."
We are a proud member of the Armed Forces Covenant and earlier this year we retained our Gold Award in the Ministry of Defence's Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.
