A children’s charity notching up two decades of supporting schools and Kent causes has paid tribute to the organisations playing a key role in its work.

The KM Charity Team invited representatives from more than 60 organisations – including the Kent and Medway councils and the KM Media Group – to its 20th birthday party held at the Ashford International Hotel.

Key partners were thanked for donating their time, expertise or funds to support the charity’s mission to give young people the knowledge and motivation for better futures.

Programmes delivered by the KM Charity Team include award-winning green travel, road safety, health and wellbeing, and literacy schemes for schools.

Families taking part in the charity’s walk to school campaign removed 600,000 cars from Kent roads last year. And youngsters signed up to home-reading initiative Buster’s Book Club collectively achieved 10 million minutes of reading.

Added to this the charity provides fundraising opportunities for good causes across the county, helping to make Kent a better place in which to live and work. Events open to all include the KM Big Bike Ride, KM Colour Run, KM Firewalk, and four heats of the KM Big Charity Quiz – staged in Medway, Canterbury, Ashford, and Maidstone.

The KM Charity Partnership Awards, now in its fifth year, placed community-minded organisations in the spotlight. They were thanked by the KM Charity Team’s new Chief Executive Officer Mike Ward and presented with Commemorative Awards and framed certificates.

In keeping with the birthday theme, attendees joined in party quizzes and challenges based on each aspect of the charity’s work.

We have been delighted to work with the KM Charity Team

Cllr Phil Filmer, Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Frontline Services, said: “We were pleased to receive a commemorative award in recognition of our partnership with the KM Charity Team for active travel to school initiatives and other environmental-based campaigns.

“We have been delighted to work alongside them on a number of initiatives including the Green School Awards which celebrate the hard work and dedication of local schools. We look forward to continuing to work with them in the future.”
