Our gritting crews have been working around the clock since the weekend to cover Medway's major roads, bus routes and potentially dangerous areas.

Although salt does not prevent snow from settling, it can help prevent ice from forming.

Our teams topped up the salt bins across Medway at the beginning of winter, which are provided at potentially dangerous places such as steep hills or sharp bends. Residents are asked not to use the salt on their own property, such as driveways, and instead to use it on the areas which might need a little extra grit - let's help keep our roads safe for our emergency services and everyone needing to make an essential journey.

We're also taking additional salt to Medway Maritime Hospital to help ensure the grounds are gritted for the staff, patients and visitors.

Residents needing to make an essential journey are urged to drive carefully.

Our teams will continue to monitor the impact of severe weather and are working day and night gritting Medway's primary and secondary routes

We'd like to say a huge thanks to our gritting crews, as well as our waste teams, who are out and about in this weather.
