About a dropped kerb

A dropped kerb or vehicle crossing allows a vehicle to drive over a public pavement to access a private driveway or parking area without causing any damage.

Before you get a dropped kerb installed by a contractor, you'll need to get our permission.

The dropped kerb is still part of the public highway and is maintained by us. Utilities within the area are managed by the relevant company. These include:

  • electricity
  • broadband
  • phone equipment.

The dropped kerb and access do not become part of your land even if you pay for the change to it as it's still a publicly maintainable highway. The access must not be used to park vehicles.

Trees outside your property

If you have a tree outside of your property, we'll need to determine the root protection area. This is to make sure it does not fall within the proposed construction area.
