Key dates

You can apply for a secondary school place for a child with an education, health and care (EHC) plan online.

Dates for submitting your school preferences

To submit your preferences for the secondary schools you will be applying for you will need to login or create a Parent Portal account.

You can begin to submit your preferences for secondary schools from 1 February 2023.

The deadline for submitting your preferences is 7 May 2023.

School place offers

You will be told what secondary school place you’ve been allocated by 31 January 2024.

EHC plan issue dates

Your special educational needs (SEN) officer will issue a proposed amended EHC plan. This will include the name of the proposed secondary school the local authority plans to name.

The amended final EHC plan should be issued by 15 February 2024.

There will always be times where securing an appropriate school place takes a little longer.

You will be told if the process is likely to exceed the deadline.
