Before you register for social housing

Social housing provides affordable accommodation to people on low incomes. To be eligible for social housing you must have some housing need, for example your current accommodation is not suitable for you or a member of your household.

You can register for social housing in Medway through Kent Homechoice. Before you apply, you will need to complete a pre-assessment to check you’re eligible for social housing.

You’ll need the following information to complete the pre-assessment:

  • ages of the members of your household
  • your salary details
  • total amount of benefits that you receive, including housing benefit
  • any other income, including savings
  • total of any money that you owe
  • total amount of any current or former owed rent

Complete the pre-assessment questionnaire

Medway Council Allocations Policy 2018

Due to demand for social housing being higher than the supply of accommodation, it is important that the Housing Allocations Policy reflects the needs of the people in Medway.

The Housing Allocations Policy determines how we manage our Housing Register and allows accommodation to be allocated to households in the most need.

We have reviewed the policy and want your feedback on the proposed changes and your suggestions for further improving the policy.

Your feedback may lead to us making more changes to the policy. When we’ve got a final version we’ll seek approval for the policy via our committees and Cabinet.

Once the policy is agreed we’ll publish it on our website.

The consultation will open on 16 August 2018 and close on 11 October 2018.

Please take some time to read the draft of the proposed policy and take our survey to give us your feedback.
