Independent living support officer responsibilities

A scheme support officer will:

  • help residents live independently, comfortably and securely
  • complete an assessment to assess the residents’ support needs
  • liaise with agencies such as social or health services
  • help with budgeting and managing finances
  • help residents understand the rights and obligations of their tenancy
  • encourage and enable residents to get involved in social events and promote involvement.

A scheme support officer cannot:

  • clean the inside of a residents accommodation
  • take over the support and care that family or friends can provide
  • provide nursing care
  • give or handle medication
  • collect, handle or manage the residents’ money
  • shop or cook for the resident.
