Coronavirus (COVID-19) and birth registrations
Birth registrations have been postponed and we are not taking any appointments during this period of social distancing. You will be able to claim child benefit or universal credit before the registration.
When to register a birth
Your baby's birth must be registered within 42 days (6 weeks) from when they were born.
If your baby was born at Medway Maritime Hospital or within the boundary of Medway Council, you should make an appointment to register the birth at the Medway Register Office. You can see who can register a birth on GOV.UK
To book an appointment call the Register Office on 01634 338 998. Appointments are available from 9.30am to 3pm.
If you are unable to get to Medway Register Office
If it is not possible to attend the Medway Register Office, the registration may be made by visiting any registrar’s office in England and Wales to make a statement called a declaration, which would then be sent to Medway.
Registrars at Medway are also able to take declarations for births which take place outside the Medway area.
