Changes after your building is registered

A proprietor or trustee will need to submit a notice if the building is no longer used as a place of worship or for the solemnisation of marriage.

Notice of disuse of a certified place of worship 

If a congregation stops using the building, you'll need to complete a notice of disuse (form 77).

Once it's submitted, any authorised persons roles at the building will be cancelled. They'll no longer be authorised to attend marriages between a man and a woman or marriages of same sex couples. 

The disuse of the building will be advertised in a local newspaper and in the London Gazette. 

The places of worship registered for marriage will also be updated.

A building’s registration for the solemnisation of marriages between a man and a woman can only be cancelled if the building is no longer used by the congregation and a notice of disuse has been submitted.

You'll need to complete a notice of cancellation of registration of a building for solemnisation of marriages of same sex couples (form 77A)

Once you have submitted the form, any authorised persons roles at the building will be cancelled. They'll no longer be authorised to attend marriages of same sex couples.
