A better Medway

Man v Fat is a football league for men who have a body mass index (BMI) that is 27.5 or higher.

We have local leagues available at Strood, with a new league launched in Gillingham in September 2021.

The programme helps residents make positive life changes that lead to sustainable weight loss. You will not just score points for goals but also for the pounds you have lost.

Benefits to joining the programme include:

  • over 90% of players lose weight
  • a fun and supportive atmosphere
  • led by qualified referees
  • it’s free.

To register, you need to know your height and weight.

Join Man v Fat: the only football league where the loser always wins.

The leagues

The first Man v Fat league launched at Strood Sports Centre in 2019.

The players managed to lose a combined weight of 394.1kg, with some men losing as much as 3 and a half stone. This proved to be a record weight loss for the national programme.

Alongside losing weight, the programme has helped to address key areas such as social isolation and healthy eating as part of Medway Council’s long-term strategy to improve public health in Medway.
