Business space

Medway is the largest urban area in the South East.

It is made up of 5 towns, Chatham, Rochester, Gillingham, Strood and Rainham that continue to attract new residents and businesses.

Delivering growth

We are delivering projects that can make Medway an economic powerhouse. These are set out in our Medway 2035 vision.

We’re currently undergoing a £1 billion transformation in the form of regeneration programmes across the area. With the ambition to become a stunning waterfront city that will lead to growth for all our residents and businesses.

Transport and connectivity

Medway boasts excellent connectivity. We have 5 train stations and are just 34 minutes away from London by high-speed train.

With great transport links to motorways we can create a hub of economic activity that is well connected with London and the rest of the region.

We are also in the process of further developing Medway’s infrastructure. We’re currently delivering £40million of government-funded infrastructure, transport and public realm improvement projects. We have successfully gained £170million in funding from our Housing Infrastructure Fund bid to unlock the potential of Hoo Peninsula.

Skills and opportunities for young people

We’re committed to improving the skills and providing opportunities to transform the lives and futures of Medway’s young people.

We have:

  • four universities
  • a £86million further education campus
  • 18 secondary schools
  • a University Technical College
  • the Royal School of Military Engineering

These are all supported by employment from a growing number of employers.

Our rate of economic growth is currently 3% higher than the national average and Medway is home to 14,000 businesses. With a growing array of employment space, Medway is geared for business.

We’re focused on expanding our business landscape by offering support and guidance needed so businesses can realise their potential.
