Jacksons Recreation Ground is a large open space in Rochester next to the A2, City Way and University College of Arts. Part of it lies on the old site of Fort Pitt and is designated as a scheduled monument.

It has:

  • tennis courts
  • a skate park
  • a play area
  • a vast grassland area.

Improvements

The project aims to improve visitor facilities on site.

It is funded by contributions for a nearby development. We will receive funding in stages over the next few years.

Currently we are planning to (subject to scheduled monument consent):

  • update the play area
  • refurbish the tennis courts
  • refurbish the skate park
  • improve access around the site.

Public consultation

We held a public consultation to gather feedback from visitors on how the park is currently used and what improvements people would like to see to help us in our decision making.

The 2 public consultation events took place at:

  • Chatham Unitarian Church, Tuesday 16 August 2022 from 6pm to 8.30pm
  • Jacksons Field (near the play area), Saturday 20 August 2022 from 11am to 2pm.

Online survey

We also held an online survey for the consultation.

The survey closed on Monday 26 September 2022.

Residents and visitors who completed the survey will be kept up to date with the project.
