Jacksons Recreation Ground is a large open space in Rochester next to the A2, City Way and University College of Arts. Part of it lies on the old site of Fort Pitt and is designated as a scheduled monument.
It has:
- tennis courts
- a skate park
- a play area
- a vast grassland area.

Skate park proposals
We've been working with a skate park designer (Canvas), landscape architects (HTA) and the user group to review and design extra skate facilities at Jacksons Recreation Ground.
What we're proposing
Part of Jacksons Field is classified as a scheduled monument which means we're restricted to what we can do in this area. Historic England have advised that we build a separate new facility away from the scheduled monument.
There will be a new facility which will offer more of a street course than the existing skate park.
We're also planning to refurbish the existing skate park.

What happens next
We'll review feedback before submitting a planning application later this year.
If planning is granted it's expected that works will begin in 2027.

Other improvements
The project aims to improve visitor facilities on site.
It's funded by contributions for a nearby development. We'll receive funding in stages over the next few years.
Currently we're planning to (subject to scheduled monument consent):
- improve access around the site
- update the play area
- refurbish the tennis courts.
Past public consultation
In 2022 we held a public consultation to gather feedback from visitors on how the park is currently used and what improvements people would like to see to help us in our decision making.
