Local transport plan
The current Medway Local Transport Plan came into effect on 1 April 2011 following approval of Full Council. It runs until 2026.
Local Enterprise Partnership Funding
During early 2014 Medway put together a package of schemes as part of the Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEP) bid for the governments Local Growth Fund (LGF).
A total of £68.1 million was granted to the Kent and Medway federated area for projects to commence in 2015 to 2016, with £28.6 million allocated for 5 successful Medway schemes.
The 5 successful schemes and the allocated LGF is as follows:
- Chatham Town Centre and Public Realm Package (£4m LGF)
- A289 Four Elms Roundabout to Medway Tunnel Journey Time and Network Improvements (£11.1m LGF)
- Medway City Estate Connectivity Improvement Measures (£2.0m LGF)
- Strood Town Centre Journey Time and Accessibility Enhancements (£9.0m LGF) (provisional allocation)
- Medway Cycling Action Plan (£2.5m LGF).
Officers will be undertaking a significant amount of work in the coming months to finalise the approval process. Additionally, a £4m loan is being offered for flood defences in Canal Road, Strood.
Walking
We are also working to improve path access for walkers around Medway, looking at how easy it is to use Public Rights of Way network.
