The Medway Integrated Community Equipment Service (MICES) supports children and adults who, due to their health or a disability, may need community equipment such as walking frames, hoists, crutches, and chairs to help them live their day-to-day lives and maintain their independence and wellbeing.
MICES is a loan service commissioned by Medway Council and the NHS Kent and Medway Clinical Commissioning Group (KMCCG). The service is provided by Medequip who will also install a range of aids and adaptations to help you in your home. This could include grab rails, ceiling track hoists, and temporary ramps.
Making a Request
MICES is a loan service, where community equipment is delivered directly to your home free of charge. For in-home assessment by an occupational therapist or trusted assessor, email us on ss.accessandinfo@medway.gov.uk or call 01634 334 466.
Residents may be eligible for a Disabled Facilities Grant to pay for major works, such as a wet room or widening doors. For more information email us on disabled.adaptations@medway.gov.uk or call 01634 331 200.
If your needs have changed
If your equipment is no longer meeting your needs, you will need another assessment to see if a different piece of equipment or an adaptation to your current equipment is required. Email us on ss.accessandinfo@medway.gov.uk or call 01634 334 466 to book an appointment.
If you are not eligible
Ask SARA, an online self-help guide hosted by the Disabled Living Foundation could help you with advice and information about products that could make daily living easier.
Repairs
If your equipment is damaged or unsafe to use, email Medequip on Medway@medequip-uk.com or call 01634 975 108. If we cannot repair the faulty equipment at your location, a replacement item will be delivered within five working days. Urgent and critical repairs will be completed in four hours.
Complaints
If you wish to raise a complaint about the equipment service, email Medequip on Medway@medequip-uk.com or call 01634 975 108.
If your complaint cannot be resolved by Medequip, email the Adults Services complaints team ss.accessandinfo@medway.gov.uk or call 01634 334 466.
Returning Equipment
You can find more information on how to return your medical equipment if you no longer need it.
Medequip and Medway Council are also trialling an automated telephone service with a company called CC2i to follow up anyone who has had loaned equipment prescribed by the NHS or social care.
