Apply for a disabled parking bay
You can apply for a disabled parking bay using our online form.
Before you apply
Before you apply for a disabled parking bay you must check:
- you're eligible for a bay
- the expiry date of your Blue Badge - if you have 3 months or less left on your badge you’ll need to renew it
- you have a copy of your vehicle logbook (V5) to upload in your application.
If another local authority issued your Blue Badge, you must contact them to transfer your badge details to Medway Council. This usually takes around 10 working days.
If you do not have a logbook for your vehicle, you can request a copy on GOV.UK. If you use a Motability scheme you’ll need to request a copy of the V5C on the Motability website.
Apply online
To complete our online application form you’ll need to:
- consent to us checking your address on our Council Tax record or upload proof of your address
- enter your Blue Badge serial number and expiry date
- upload a copy of the vehicle logbook (V5) for the vehicle registered to your address
- tell us about any off-road parking facility you have access to at (or near) your property
- tell us where you would prefer the bay to be placed
- give us your phone number and email address (or give us details of someone we can contact on your behalf).

What happens after you apply
We’ll review your application and check your address, Blue Badge and vehicle proof.
If we’re satisfied with your proof, we’ll assess if we can install a bay for your address.
It can take 6 to 8 weeks to complete our assessment due to the volume of applications we receive.
We’ll look at road markings, road management and safety where you live.
We may need to complete a site visit. You do not need to be present for this visit.
We’ll let you know if we can install a disabled parking bay or not.
If we cannot install a disabled parking bay
If we cannot install a bay, we'll contact you to explain why.
Right of appeal
You can appeal our decision in writing by emailing disabled.parking@medway.gov.uk
You must email us within 28 days of receiving your confirmation letter or email. We will not accept appeals made after this time.
Other support
There may still be support available to you if you’re struggling with your mobility.
You could:
- apply for a disabled facilities grant
- apply for a dropped kerb
- apply for a concessionary bus pass
- view transport options for disabled people on GOV.UK.
If we can install a disabled parking bay
If we can install a bay, you’ll receive a report and technical plan for where the bay can be placed.
You’ll also receive a link to an online form to tell us if you’d like to:
- accept the proposed location and pay the £44 fee
- request a review of the proposed location.
Once you have paid, we cannot change the bay location.
It can take approximately 6 to 8 weeks to install a bay. Weather conditions and access to the location may cause delays.
Requesting a review of our proposed location
We’ll only be able to review a location once.
If we can move a bay to a different location, we’ll send you a new technical plan. You’ll need to tell us if you:
- accept this new location and pay the £44 fee
- reject the new location and close your application.
If we cannot move the bay, we’ll tell you why.
You’ll still be able to accept our first proposed location or withdraw your application.
Once a disabled parking bay is installed
You must display your Blue Badge when your parked in a disabled parking bay.
