Medway Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Policy amendment

An increasing number of complaints have been received of passengers being turned away for wishing to pay by card in Medway licensed taxi and private hire vehicles.

This is a public safety issue, putting passengers at risk, especially for vulnerable passengers late at night.

Because of this, the Medway Licensing and Safety Committee has authorised a public consultation on including of a mandatory condition to Appendix B of the Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Policy.

This would mean that every Medway licensed hackney carriage and private hire vehicle must have a working mobile card machine available for the fare paying public to use as an alternative method of payment.
