Medway Council Fostering is proud to support the annual Foster Care Fortnight campaign which runs from Monday 15 May to Sunday 28 May 2023.

It's the UK’s biggest campaign to raise awareness of foster care and is delivered by the charity The Fostering Network.

Foster Care Fortnight 2023 celebrates the inspirational commitment, passion and dedication of foster carers.

The aim of the campaign is to increase awareness about the need for foster carers and to encourage more people to join our fostering community. This can help make an incredible difference to the lives of thousands of children and young adults who deserve a chance to feel safe, cared for and happy in life.

Foster Care Fortnight is an opportunity to come forward and find out about this incredibly rewarding career, the benefits it can bring you and your family, and the difference you can make.

We tend to focus the whole month to Foster Care Fortnight because our fostering families deserve that time for recognition and celebration.

Fostering in Medway

We have joined our efforts with national fostering services aimed at raising the profile of fostering, providing an opportunity to get out into our communities and speak to potential new foster carers.

The key message is awareness of how foster care transforms lives with a community of foster carers and the service behind you.

The theme for the campaign this year is ‘Fostering Communities’. We're encouraging all those involved in fostering and the communities who support them to come together and share their stories and experiences.

For us, 'Fostering Communities' is about coming together as a family and empowering each other. The aim is to create positive impacts and experiences for the children who come to live with you.

How you can get involved

Foster Care Fortnight is an ideal time to reach out to the wider Medway community and tell them about:

Strike up a conversation

You can start a conversation with friends or family about fostering to raise awareness.

For example, did you know that foster carers care for around three-quarters of the 97,000 looked after children in the UK.

How your support helps

Every day, foster carers provide children and young people with safe, loving and supportive homes.

They have continued to do so under some incredibly difficult circumstances over the past few years and more recently, the cost-of-living crisis. This is why there is always a need for new foster families.

Your involvement in raising the profile of fostering and the vital role it plays in society is crucial for generating awareness of our fostering services in Medway.
