Continuing professional development (CPD)
CPD ensures that professionals maintain and develop their knowledge and skills throughout their career.
It is an on-going process of learning and development designed to improve practice and enable career progression. It ensures that professionals retain their ability to practice safely, effectively and legally.
CPD includes all learning activities undertaken as a social worker, including:
- professional supervision
- peer group learning
- placements
- training programmes
- higher level qualifications
This enables flexibility and choice about how to meet individual learning needs.
