The aim of this toolkit is to help us become more digitally accessible and inclusive.
Who this toolkit is for
This toolkit is designed to support:
- Medway Council employees
- partners
- consultants
- third-party providers.
It helps anyone involved in designing, building or maintaining digital services to make them more accessible and inclusive.
Meeting our legal responsibilities
Like all public sector organisations, Medway Council has a legal duty to make its websites, mobile apps and digital documents accessible to everyone.
If you're new to digital accessibility, we recommend starting with our about digital accessibility and inclusion page.
Our commitment to digital accessibility and inclusion
Accessibility and inclusion are part of our core values and behaviours:
- We aim to be proud to be Medway – taking pride in making sure everyone can access the services they need and feel included in our processes and community.
- We strive to be caring – showing compassion towards others.
- We aim to be respectful – recognising Medway’s diversity, heritage and, most importantly, each other.
- We want to be trusted – giving people confidence they can access the services they need, while being open and accountable for our actions.
- We are ambitious for Medway – going beyond legal requirements to create bold, innovative solutions that work for every resident.
- We believe in being collaborative – working together as one Medway to meet user needs.

We update the toolkit regularly with practical guidance, tools and examples for you to use.
We have also produced a digital accessibility and inclusion strategy to set out how we will embed accessibility into everyday practice. Read our strategy to find out more about how you can get involved.
