What help you may receive

The help you may receive will depend on:

  • urgency
  • your needs
  • your current circumstances.

Urgent help

Urgent help is available to those who are:

  • already homeless
  • sleeping rough
  • fleeing domestic violence.

We'll try to find temporary accommodation for you and your family. We'll also share other support you may need including:

  • meals
  • medical help
  • daily items.

You'll stay in temporary accommodation whilst we make our decision about your homelessness application or until we support you to find permanent accommodation.

Help to stay in your current home

If you have not left your home yet, we'll try to explore ways we can help you to stay there. This is to ensure minimal disruption to your life.

Other help can include:

  • ensuring you know your rights when it comes to evictions
  • claiming all the benefits you're entitled to
  • helping resolve debt issues
  • referring you for home adaptations to ensure your home meets your needs.

Help if you have to leave your home

We may offer you emergency accommodation if it's not possible for you to stay at home.

If you're not eligible for emergency accommodation, we'll provide advice on what you can do. We'll support you to find alternative accommodation.

We'll talk to you about :

  • your housing options
  • any housing schemes available to you.

We may be able to refer you to specific accommodation if you have specific needs. For example, supported accommodation.

If you have an income, we encourage you to look at privately rented homes and other options first. You'll have greater success at finding a new home if you're looking for one and working with us.

Personal Housing Plan

The steps you need to take are in your Personal Housing Plan (PHP). You will receive this once you have made your homelessness application.

You can access your PHP on the Kent Homechoice portal after you have signed up or signed in. If you cannot or do not want to sign up, we'll share your plan with you by email or post. You can choose what you prefer.
